Flat Screen TV Repair

damaged flat screen TVDOES YOUR FLAT SCREEN TV HAVE vertical lines on the screen? A fading picture? In this day and age, many flat screen TVs are extremely large and very fragile which make these devices more prone to faults and accidental damages. For example, if you do not have your flat screen TV mounted to the wall it has a higher chance of being knocked over and being damaged. Flat screen TV repair is common for most computer repair shops and it might be an easy option to consider if the warranty doesn’t cover the repair and the DIY guide failed to repair your damaged screen. Many people worry about flat screen TV repair cost and how much they are willing to spend on repairing their at-home entertainment center. When is it worth the repair and when is it cheaper to replace the entire TV? These are common questions that are frequently asked when the topic of flat screen TV repair arises.

Vertical Lines, Spots, Fading, Bright Pixels, Small Dots…

These are all common problems that can develop in your flat screen TV. The  TV’s flat screen is extremely complex, a large grid lays across the screen with many tiny pixels. At times, the conductor or transistor behind the pixel will die out and will no longer be able to light up that pixel. A few dead pixels may be annoying but are usually not worth worrying about. This can also be the reason for that fading picture, small dots and those annoying spots. You may want to check with your manufacturer about the warranty and what they will cover with this kind of flat screen TV repair service.  Some warranties will specifically say they will only fix flat screen TVs with a certain percentage of dead pixels.

Is your flat screen TV showing vertical lines and becoming extremely hot?? This is another problem that is often seen with flat screen TVs.  Here are a few things that you can try to fix the problem:

  1. Try to connect all connectors including HDMI, coax, etc., to be sure all inputs are working properly.
  2. Push the HDMI connector firmly into the back of the set.
  3. Be sure your actual cable is not bad and causing the issue.

Unplug the TV and open up the TV case. You will want to look for a bulging or leaking capacitor. If you see any that are leaking or bulging, you will want to replace them. If you don’t find any bad caps, you could choose replace the whole circuit board but that may be more than the TV is worth. In this case you may want to consider replacing the TV rather than repairing it. Some of these issues are common on Samsung, Sony, Vizio, and Toshiba brand TVs.

Scratched/Cracked Screen

Scratched Screen:

Much like a dead pixel, a small scratch in your TV screen will most likely not result in any major issues besides portraying those annoying spots and small dots on your TV screen. If you are considering trying to repair that annoying scratched screen it may be quite the challenge. Trying to rub out a scratch in your flat screen TV can cause even more damage to the screen. Your best bet is to turn on the TV and see if you can even notice the scratch, many times the scratch will only be noticeable if the TV set is off. If you can live with the scratch, we suggest that you do your best to ignore it. It is not worth the hassle in attempting to repair it and it is certainly not worth replacing the entire TV set for a simple scratch.

Cracked Screen:

This is a major issue with the newer flat screen TVs, older models were much more durable. Many companies do not cover cracked TV screen repair under warranty and the repair may not be free. Unfortunately, if the panel itself is cracked, the only way to repair the panel is to replace it with a new panel and this should be done by the manufacturer. Either way, the cost of this replacement, in parts and labor will generally be so high that simply replacing the TV would be your best bet. If your cracked flat screen TV does not work at all you will want to get in contact with a repair center to see if the TV is worth repairing or if you would be better off replacing the whole TV.

Cost Of Repairing Your Damaged Flat Screen TV

Flat screen TV repair cost depends greatly on what you are repairing on the TV. By far the most expensive type of flat screens to repair are LED television screens. The cost of replacing a cracked LED or Plasma screen would be close to the original price you paid for the entire TV. In this case, it is not recommended that you attempt to repair these types of TVs. Replacing the entire TV would be your best bet as the repairs are extremely expensive.

On the other hand, LCD TV screens can easily be repaired through a simple process which involves fitting a plastic screen in between the glass sections. If the plastic screen has minor damage to it, it is possible to repair it for a low price. If the LCD part is damaged, the price of repairing it could go beyond $400.

DIY Repair

Determining which part mighty be bad inside your flat screen TV may be difficult. It most certainly can be done if you have the proper knowledge of electronic repair. If you do not have any sort of experience, DIY repair is not recommended and you should take your flat screen TV to a flat screen TV repair shop so they can troubleshoot the issue for you. If it is a simple part that has gone bad you can easily save you money by buying that part online and repairing the TV on your own. It is determining what is wrong with the TV that can be tricky when attempting a DIY repair. Your best bet, if you are not equipped with the proper knowledge, is taking it to a flat screen TV repair shop.
